Learning to ask better questions

Our teaching starts with meaningful questions and gives students the tools to investigate them. Across Dr. Maor Shani’s courses, discussion, practical exercises, and research projects connect theory with lived experience. Students learn to question assumptions, weigh evidence, and explain what their conclusions can—and cannot—support.

Learn through inquiry

Use real questions, cases, and data to turn concepts into understanding.

Think critically, discuss openly

Compare perspectives, challenge arguments respectfully, and make room for different ways of participating.

Build research confidence

Practise choosing methods, interpreting evidence, and communicating clearly and responsibly.

Antisemitism and Trauma

Impact, resilience, and adaptive coping

Undergraduate research seminar · 2025–26 and planned 2026–27

Explore our antisemitism research

This distinctive seminar brings the psychology of antisemitism into direct conversation with research on discrimination, collective trauma, identity, and resilience. Jewish and Israeli experiences, including the context of October 7 and its aftermath, provide a starting point for examining wider questions about exclusion, belonging, and coping.

Students move from reading and discussion to empirical research: developing questions, considering ethical choices, interpreting evidence, and writing a scientific argument. The seminar connects teaching with the lab’s ongoing survey and experimental research.

We encourage thoughtful disagreement and careful distinctions between concepts, experiences, and evidence. Students are never expected to disclose personal trauma or speak on behalf of a whole group.

Advanced Perspectives in Developmental Psychological Research

A seminar on psychology’s contribution to major societal challenges and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students develop ambitious, scientifically grounded research and intervention ideas that connect evidence with social impact.
